Geocaching is a fun activity that provides a way for individuals to get outdoors while also using exciting 21st century technology. Geocaching is a global game of hide and seek that uses popular and widely-available global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver devices to find hidden containers, called geocaches. The coordinates of geocaches are freely available to the public via the website geocaching.com. Using these coordinates as well as information and hints published about a geocache, individuals use their GPS receiver to navigate to and locate the container. Geocaches typically contain small trinkets or “swag,” and are often hidden in natural and interesting areas.
