To meet the needs of US businesses as well as today’s future employees, we created The Community On Demand Card Game Curriculum (CGC).  Community On Demand is a flexible, blended-learning, employment solution that integrates the fun of a card game into individually customized curricula, hands-on leadership training, and meaningful work-based learning experiences.   It helps learners of all ages define, measure, build and name their high demand employability skills while teaching them how to create, secure and retain career-building opportunities within their local communities.

Educators and instructors can register for our “How To Play Community On Demand” Train-The-Trainer Workshop.  This professional development course gives you a complete overview of the game, all of its game pieces, and how to conduct each level of game play.  You will gain access to a teacher’s manual, lesson plans, activity worksheets, and other information.   The lessons are designed for face-to-face interaction between teachers and students but can be conducted through distance learning as well.

Parents and adults 18 years or older can register to become an Individual, Mentor, Non-profit Partner or For-profit Partner of their Community On Demand Digital Society Network.  Once registration is complete, you can join the Legacy Council, serve as a subject matter expert of your STEAM industry, or volunteer for a new or existing Junior Executive Management Team.

If you choose to become a Mentor, you will be required to take a “How To Play Community On Demand” Train-The-Trainer Workshop. Once the registration has been approved, you will gain access to a train-the-trainer toolkit, a facilitator’s guide, lesson plans, activities, and other information AND serve as a Mentor for your Community On Demand Digital Society Network.

Business owners can register to become a member of their Community On Demand Digital Society Network and request to have a Partnership Plan developed for your business. A NEXT Steps facilitator will host a custom “How To Play Community On Demand” Train-The-Trainer Workshop for your staff, executive leadership team, workers and trainees.

We will also integrate our Digital Badge & Skillcoin Rewards System into your job descriptions and help you create work-based learning projects that define, measure, build and name the high-demand skills your company needs to meet your triple bottom line.

Members of our Community On Demand Digital Society Network will have access to the STEM Direct Jobs Board.  There, you will be able to see what paid and unpaid work-based learning opportunities our members have made available for learners that have demonstrated or need to demonstrate verified proof of their achievements.

Supervisors can request a Partnership Plan in order to review and discuss how they would like to introduce the Community On Demand card game curriculum  to their employees in order to establish a baseline assessment of their employability skills. 

Following a period of at least 90 days of daily observation via custom work-based learning experiences, supervisors can then complete Community On Demand STEAM Skills Self-Assessment Worksheets and Rubrics to determine whether the employees have met the requirements to earn the Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs micro-credential.  Supervisors will have access to a group management portal to enter and track their progress as well as print their micro-credentials.  The Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs micro-credential is signed by Dana Jewel Harris, creator of The Community On Demand card game curriculum.

Level 1 Game Play (Single Player)

Skills Self-Assessment

The first level of game play establishes the base line contribution values of employability skills for each individual player.  Use the Community On Demand card game to conduct a self-paced or guided assessment of your high demand STEAM skills.

Level 2 Game Play (Basic Team Play)

Leadership, Teambuilding & Problem-Solving

The second level of game play establishes the combined contribution values of employability skills for all members of a team.  Learners are taught how to use the 6 Condition Cards to develop impact solution(s) that benefit their community.  They are also introduced to the first three lessons of The Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs to learn how to form a Junior Executive Management (JEM) Team.

Level 3 Game Play (Advanced Team Play)

Financial Literacy, Resource & Time Management

The third level of game play is a crowdfunding competition. JEM Teams learn how to use eGift card sponsorships convert their Impact Projects into crowdfunding campaigns to raise awareness about their impact solutions and the socio-economic issues negatively impacting their community.

Level 4 Game Play (Ultimate Team Play)

Entrepreneurship, Career Fairs & Social Venture Launches

The fourth level of game play is the apprentice competition. JEM Teams present applications of all five Community On Demand achievement domains to the Legacy Council as they convert their Impact Projects and crowdfunding campaigns into the launch of a local, small businesses or social venture.

Community On Demand was created by U.S. Army Veteran, Dana Jewel Harris and is administered through her nonprofit organization (501c3) called The NEXT Steps Youth Entrepreneur Program.

Parents of working-aged children that are no longer in school, you could purchase the entire Community On Demand card game set and then register your child for a Junior Executive Management (JEM) Team Leadership Workshop.  Your student will join a cohort of other learners to form a JEM Team and receive leadership training through single and basic team play of the Community On Demand card game. 

If you purchase the online courses, your student can enhance their training through self-guided learning and by completing advanced and ultimate team play.  By doing so, they will learn how to complete a self-assessment of their employability skills and develop a baseline contribution value of their skills so they can prepare a resume, complete a job or college application, start a crowdfunding campaign or even pitch an innovative idea for a business venture.

You will also be required to take a “How To Play Community On Demand” Train-The-Trainer Workshop and purchase a curriculum license for your facility. Once you have been approved , you will gain access to a train-the-trainer toolkit, a facilitator’s guide, lesson plans, activity worksheets, and other information to complete all of your training.

Individuals who need to improve their employability skills can register for single and team game play.  Once your registration has been approved, you will receive your Community On Demand game set through the mail along with an email that contains your user login and password and access to any online courses you registered for. 

You will then have the opportunity to join or form a new or existing Junior Executive Management Team that operates within your Community On Demand Digital Society Network to ensure your training experience is meaningful and enjoyable.

Each level of game play is accessed through the NEXT Steps Online Training Academy where players will use our Community On Demand STEAM Skills Self-Assessment Worksheets and Rubrics as well as our Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs Online Courses.  Once learners have submitted their proof of work which demonstrates how they used their employability skills to solve real-world challenges, then they will become eligible to receive digital badges for each lesson they complete and a micro-credential for completing the entire course.

Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs Micro-Credentials are based on the Workforce Ready Career Pathway Curriculum and are awarded by their teacher or instructor.  Students have an opportunity to earn a  Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs  micro-credential each semester.

Take Courses

Community On Demand costs a minimum of $29.00 to begin the single player version of the card game.  Upon registration and payment of materials, a Community On Demand game set will be mailed to you and an email will be sent to you with your user name and password in order to access any online training materials and submission forms to track your progress, submit proof of your work, and upgrade your membership and game play.

For groups, businesses and organizations that wish to do large groups, a group license is required.

There are five components to The Community On Demand Card Game Curriculum:

  • CoD Card Deck – an innovative 72pc pocket-size card game curriculum that uses five color-coded achievement domains to help learners quickly define, measure, build and name their high-demand employability skills.
  • CoD Skills Self-Assessment Worksheet – a single use, letter-sized project-based mapping tool where learners use the skill cards of the Community On Demand card deck to track the growth of 63 of the employability skills they have, need and use to successfully complete any project.
  • CoD Game Board – a reusable 18″ x 24″ dry-erase project-based mapping tool where learners use the skill cards of the Community On Demand card deck to visually assess up to 63 of the employability skills they have, need and use to successfully complete any project. The game board makes skill-building and team-building fun!
  • Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs Activity Workbook – The official textbook for the Community On Demand card game curriculum — provides eight easy lessons to help young innovators assess their STEAM skills, build teams, create career-building opportunities, and launch new social ventures.
  • Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs Online Course (Curriculum Series) – guides young innovators with in-depth digital visuals, audio tracks, and activity worksheets as they complete the Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs and gives a more robust team game play experience as they play the Community On Demand card game.
