The new playground will eventually serve more than 16,000 kids over its 15-year life span. Many obstacles, including socio-economic barriers, prevent children in the community from getting the play they need to thrive. Being involved in the community-build process breaks down some of these barriers around isolation andcreates a welcoming and safe play space for everyone.
Foresters, an international financial services provider, supports KaBOOM! in promoting and protecting a child’s right to active play at home, at school and in the community and is a National Partner and a founding member of the KaBOOM! Leadership Circle – a group of organizations providing long-term guidance and support to KaBOOM! and its mission.
Since 2006, Foresters has invested over $10 million with KaBOOM! to build over120 playgrounds across the U.S. and Canada by the end of 2015. Over their 15-year lifespan, these playgrounds will provide more than 4million children and their families with an opportunity to spend quality time together and enhance family well-being.
Play is central to a child’s ability to grow into a productive adult. It can transform children from sedentary, bored and solitary to physically, mentally and socially active. Since 1996, KaBOOM! has been dedicated to the bold goal of ensuring that all children get the balancedand active play they need to become healthy and successful adults. With its partners, KaBOOM! has built, improved and opened more than 16,000 playgrounds, engaged more than one million volunteers, and served more than 7.4 million children.
The playground build begins early in the morning with volunteers arriving at an empty site. Led by KaBOOM!, volunteers from Foresters and the community will transform the space into a vibrant neighborhood gathering place in just a few hours.Together, we can give all children the joyful childhood they deserve and help them grow into healthy and successful adults.
