Key Activities & Deliverables
Mentorships consist of a long-term relationship focused on supporting the growth and development of students as they learn about a particular industry and workplace.
The student is paired with a community professional who has a recognized record of achievement and first-hand experience in the occupational field or career cluster of the student’s choice.
The mentor becomes a source of guidance, motivation, wisdom, teaching, role modeling, and support.
How To Coordinate The Community On Demand
Mentoring Work-based Learning Experience
About The Mentorship Experience
Level 2. Basic Team Play
The Community On Demand Mentorship Work-Based Learning Experience encourages learners to find STEAM Mentors within their local community that can 1) provide a broad view of the local businesses/industries and 2) guide them through the hands-on experiences they need to successfully complete each level of game play.
During the Community On Demand Mentoring Work-Based Learning Experience, game play requires that the student must build a network of society members that will help them develop and implement their impact solutions. To do so, learners must identify local Mentors/STEAM professionals that can become a source of guidance, motivation, wisdom, teaching, role modeling, and support by simply sharing knowledge, advice, and resources that will help students develop and implement their impact solutions.
Suggested Grade/Learner Level (s)
6-12th Grades; College; Post-secondary, Young Adult, Adult (Professional Development & Continuing Education)
Recommended: One to three (1-3) mentorships for each STEAM Career Cluster the student is exploring or using to develop and/or implement their impact solution.
Standard #1 within all CTE STEAM Career Clusters and Pathways course curricula as well as the Workforce Ready Course Number 32.43000 Introduction to Career Competencies CTE course credits. Students may earn .5 credit toward graduation for mentorships of at least a 140-hour duration
