Welcome To The Smith Family Ranch! For the last two years, we swung open our ranch gates and hearts to over 800 cherished members of our community by offering a medley of events that etched beautiful memories. From the whimsical Easter egg hunts and thrilling car shows to heartfelt birthday parties and soulful family reunions, The Smith Family Ranch is all about togetherness and takes pride in being a special place “where family comes together.” As we pay tribute to the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we invite you to our first annual Community On Demand(tm) MLK Day of Service Community Cleanup & Backyard BBQ – family reunion style! This year’s theme is “Heroes Leaning Forward”. We want to honor veterans that have dedicated their lives to becoming mentors, counselors, life coaches and community leaders after their discharge from service. Veterans embody the spirit of Dr. King’s vision of service, compassion, and unity. For that we SALUTE you! Event Highlights: During this year’s community cleanup, our focus is on creating spaces that will allow us to educate, engage and entertain the families that visit our ranch. That means providing the most interactive and rewarding experiences as possible. To do that, we need your help beautifying the property, and getting it ready for the new Spring season of programming. Community Cleanup: Volunteers will help us clean up and beautify our new community garden training area, prune and remove invasive (non-native) plants from our walking trails, and help design and clear out pocket areas throughout the property. OK to bring your own tools! Behavioral Health Awareness: We will providing horticulture therapy activities to raise awareness about behavioral health issues that affect many individuals and families — especially veterans returning from active duty. Group Leaders* will introduce techniques that demonstrate how to foster a supportive community environment where we can openly discuss, address and support mental health as a family unit. *NOTE: Licensed professionals are not required for horticulture therapy activities, but are encouraged to register and lead this activity. Permaculture Workshops: Educators* will be on hand to help our younger volunteers discover the wonders of our natural habitats. Not only will this help them nurture our land but teach them how to extend that care to the land surrounding places where their families live, work, learn, play, worship and travel. *NOTE: STEAM/CTAE Professionals & Educators are encouraged to register and lead this activity. Backyard BBQ Fundraiser: After a morning of impactful service and insightful awareness, we will gather together for a heartwarming backyard BBQ fundraiser to celebrate the unity of purpose, the strength of community, and the joy of giving back. It’s BYOB! The party starts at 12P. ***We are not opposed to hosting our first Smith Family Ranch BBQ cookoff. Just sayin’!!!!*** ***IMPORTANT: No outside pets or emotional support animals are allowed on the property except working service animals.*** CONTACT: Dana Jewel Harris Ranch Manager The Smith Family Ranch info@nextstepsyep.org nextstepsyep.org |
