Through game play, learners must assess their applied skills and create digital badge collections for their community engagement strategies, STEAM resumes, college or job applications, business pitches and/or presentations. Players can also earn digital badges, micro-credentials, trade dollars and Skillcoin Rewardsâ„¢ when they develop and implement impact solutions that benefit communities where they live, work, learn, play and travel.

Training Operations

  • Junior Executive Management (JEM) Teams are pre-apprenticeship and work-based learning experiences designed to help learners strengthen their employability skills and solve real-world problems.
  • Training sessions are recommended to last between :45- 90 minutes each and last between 8-12 weeks.
  • Students are expected to use the Community On Demand curriculum to develop impact solutions that address issues presented on one or more of the socio-economic conditions cards that reflect conditions that are negatively affecting their community.
  • We highly recommend integrating The Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs Activity Workbook and its corresponding online courses to guide learners through the basic, advanced and ultimate game play levels of the Community On Demand card game (which include activities on how to write a winning mission statement, develop a business plan, build a project malmanagement team and launch a social venture).

Registration

Membership in the STEM Direct Youth Chamber of Commerce is required.  Members must pay an annual dues which is used to provide rewards and other financial resources earned and/or requested by players of the Community On Demand card game.

Members must also register for each new game play session.  We offer three sessions per year:

  • Session I: September – December
  • Session II: January – May
  • Session III: June – August

Materials

The Community On Demand (CoD) Card Game Curriculum is comprised of (visit Pop Shop for all game piece prices):

  • CoD Card Deck is an innovative 72-pc pocket-size deck of cards that use five color-coded achievement domains to help learners quickly define, measure, build and name their high-demand employability skills.
  • CoD Game Board is a reusable 18″ x 24″ dry-erase project-based skill mapping tool. The Community On Demand game board makes team-building fun as it provides an extended use of the Community On Demand card game.  With the game board, learners are able to visually assess the employability skills they have, need and use to successfully complete any project.
  • CoD Skills Self-Assessment Worksheets are designed to help learners use the Community On Demand card deck to track the growth of their employability skills based on how they used them to successfully complete any project.
  • Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs Activity Workbook is the official textbook for the Community On Demand card game curriculum.  It provides eight easy lessons to help young innovators assess their STEAM skills, build project teams, create career-building opportunities, and launch new social ventures.
  • Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs Online Course (Curriculum Series) – is the online course series that provides in-depth digital visuals, audio tracks, and activity worksheets and provides a more robust team play experience.

Play dates are scheduled demonstration and workshop events.

Demonstrations

Demonstration play dates are virtual or in-person “How To Play” presentations that:

  • Provide an overview of how Community On Demand was created
  • Introduce all of the game pieces,
  • Explain the game rules, and
  • Present single and team player case studies — photos and videos of how individuals and groups are incorporating Community On Demand into their training programs.

Workshops

Workshop play dates are virtual or in-person training activities that teach attendees how to customize incorporation of Community On Demand game play into their training programs and curricula.  Workshops are offered for the following groups:

JEM Team Leadership Workshops

NEXT Steps provides leadership training for groups that wish to form and/or join a Junior Executive Management (JEM) Team. Participants will receive:

  • Guided or self-paced instruction on How To Build Your JEM Team
  • The Community On Demand Card Game set
  • The Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs Activity Workbook
  • JEM Team Activity Toolkit

Train-The-Trainer Workshops

NEXT Steps works directly with educators, instructors, life coaches, guidance counselors, district directors, HR professionals, workforce development agency executives, admissions personnel, or group leaders that wish to design and implement customized professional development workshops into their existing CTE pathway courses, work-based learning experiences and/or college and career readiness training activities.

Participants will receive all components of the Community On Demand Card Game Curriculum (including The Money Guide for Young Entrepreneurs Activity Workbook and online course) and will experience all four levels of game play through project-based  initiatives relevant to their course subject matter and educational needs, goals, and objectives.

Formats include school professional development days, early release or late start days, after-school workshop series, classroom demonstrations and coaching, graduate courses, summer institutes, and a variety of combinations, including hybrid online and face-to-face offerings.

Employability Sports (Esports)

Gamers & Mixers Esports Competitions are for individuals and JEM Teams that wish to have their game play achievements measured through themed competition.  JEM Teams must use our Digital Badge & Skillcoin Rewards System to earn digital badges, micro-credentials, trade dollars and Skillcoin Rewards™ to convert their impact solutions into work-based learning experiences (i.e.  pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, internships, school-based/social enterprises, etc.) crowdfunding initiatives and social ventures. Throughout game play, learners must assess their applied skills and create digital badge collections for their community engagement strategies, STEAM resumes, college or job applications, business pitches and/or presentations.

JEM Teams must use our signature Community Involvement Growth Strategy (CIGS) Modelâ„¢ to digitally document how they use their STEAM skills to create impact solutions, maximize engagement, strengthen their financial literacy, and build sustainable, purpose-built communities.

 

Game Play Levels

Level 1 Game Play (Single Player)
Skills Self-Assessment

Individual players use the Community On Demand card game and job shadowing work-based learning experiences to establish their base line contribution values and conduct self-paced or guided assessments of their high-demand employability skills.

 

Level 2 Game Play (Basic Team Play)
Leadership, Teambuilding & Problem-Solving

Learners are taught how to form a JEM Team and use the Community On Demand Condition Cards to partner with Legacy Mentors, establish the contribution values of their collective employability skills, and develop impact solution(s) that benefit their community. (This level of game play meets CTE Course Standard #1 and supplements Work Readiness Career Pathway Course Number 32.43000 Introduction to Career Competencies.)

 

Level 3 Game Play (Advanced Team Play)
Financial Literacy, Resource & Time Management

The third level of game play is a crowdfunding competition. JEM Teams learn how to use eGift card sponsorships to convert their Impact Projects into crowdfunding campaigns and raise awareness about how their impact solutions will address, reduce and/or eliminate the socio-economic issues negatively impacting their community. (This level of game play meets CTE Course Standard #1 and supplements Work Readiness Career Pathway Course Number 32.43100 Career Competencies.)

 

Level 4 Game Play (Ultimate Team Play)
Entrepreneurship, Career Fairs & Social Venture Launches

The fourth level of game play is the apprentice competition. JEM Teams must present applications of all five Community On Demand achievement domains to the Legacy Council as they convert their Impact Projects and crowdfunding campaigns into local, small businesses and/or social ventures. (This level of game play meets CTE Course Standard #1 and supplements Work Readiness Career Pathway Course Number 32.43200 Advanced Career Competencies)

 

Game Play Strategy

Through game play, learners must assess their applied skills and create digital badge collections for their community engagement strategies, STEAM resumes, college or job applications, business pitches and/or presentations. Employability Skills Framework

Successful careers are built on solid personal and interpersonal skills. Defining, measuring, and building these skills— even naming them— can be challenging. In an effort to leverage and connect the efforts of policy makers, educators, and employers, the U.S. Department of Education compiled the Employability Skills Framework and developed related tools, media and resources.

Community On Demand Digital Economy

Community On Demand is fueled by an e-commerce and loyalty rewards program that offers players and community stakeholders in-game currencies to buy, trade and purchase products and services throughout the Community On Demand digital economy.

JEM Teams earn in-game currencies by using their employability skills to build their networks and resources as they addresss socio-economic conditions that negatively impact the communities where they live, work, learn, play and travel. By strengthening their employability skills, they are able to increase the contribution values of their collective impact through work-based learning initiatives and community involvement growth strategies.  As a result, they enjoy the benefits that come from maximizing engagement, creating inter-generational wealth systems, and building sustainable, purpose-built communities.

Community On Demand Digital Media Network

Through a partnership with The NEXT Steps Small Business Incubator (NS-SBI), we provide JEM Teams and members of their network additional business support services through The Community On Demand Digital Media Network.  The Community On Demand Digital Media Network is a marketing and distributions platform that integrates all of the STEAM education, virtual currencies, cooperative marketing, e-commerce and flexible, blended-learning employment solutions into a digital media internship program called JEM-TV News.

Content created by JEM Teams are submitted as original content for the JEM-TV News Network and will be used as peer-to-peer content that demonstrates how JEM Teams advance through and beyond every level of growth throughout their Community On Demand game play.

 

JEM-TV News Team Internship

Any JEM Team member can apply to join the JEM-TV News Team Internship Program.   JEM-TV News Team Members serve as Community On Demand Ambassadors and gain skills in entertainment management, broadcasting technologies, promotions, marketing, advertising, sales and product distribution for the sole purpose of sustaining the Community On Demand Digital Media Network.
